Testimonials

“I visited a handful of tiny house builders and even holidayed in one built locally, but I couldn’t get Adam’s truck tiny house out of my mind.

Good design makes all the difference when your space is small, so I worked with Adam on this closely. As a result of our long phone chats, a few drawings on paper and Adam’s work on SketchUp, I have everything I need within reach. I can work, rest and play in my happy cubby house, cleaning takes ten minutes and my ‘favourite spot’ changes all the time.

It’s as if the house is a timber box built by skilled human hands for my delight. Visitors agree and most often comment on the wonderful scent of sun-warmed pine, cypress, cedar and sandalwood. Their eyes can’t take in all of the details at once as they tell me how big the space seems to them – more than they’d expected. I tell them it’s all the windows!”

“Adam produced a work of art on wheels. Adam worked closely with us to clarify our design specifications, he also had a lot of great design ideas to share plus loads of enthusiasm. Adam managed all aspects of the build from sourcing sustainable materials, organising additional trades and skills as needed. Adam is a skilled craftsman/carpenter with fantastic attention to detail and an eye for what is aesthetically pleasing. I thoroughly recommend Adam to anyone wanting to build a home.”

— Peter Read ( tiny house client)

“Adam has a wealth of knowledge around construction and the willingness to use and adapt older methods of building we see less and less of these days into his projects. His eye for detail, quality and design are all aspects that make his projects stand out from the rest with an emphasis on traditional aesthetics and construction techniques. I have learnt so much from this craftsman not only about building but also about life. A craftsman, teacher and mentor.”

“Adam Hickman hand built the round wood frame for our beautiful straw bale roundhouse. He was meticulous from start to finish. Not only is he a master craftsman he is also really good at listening to what you want and executing it with such passion and love. I have so much respect for him and his work. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone looking to build. I was lucky recently to see another of his roundwood frames in England- it was absolutely beautiful and to the same high standard as I would expect!”

“Adam Hickman worked as a carpenter / builder on the second phase of the construction of ‘Kinship’ – an earthship-biotecture-inspired, fire resilient, regenerative design, post-bushfire rebuild in Kinglake, Australia. Adam brought unique technical experience and deep craftsman skills to this role. He made many fine contributions. His dedication and commitment was a source of inspiration to all he worked alongside. His contagious passion made him a joy to work with. I thoroughly recommend him to anyone interested in the philosophy and practice of natural building.”
